In the 1960s, two Portuguese brothers - the Tavares brothers, skilled traders based in Maceió - decided to found SOCOCO. They were already selling shredded coconut, but they had the vision of producing and distributing products derived from coconut on a scale that had not existed on the market until then, either in Brazil or abroad.
The company dedicated itself to growing coconut trees in the state of Pará, taking advantage of the region's ideal conditions for this activity. One of Sococo's most popular items, recognized for its quality and for being a sugar-free product, is coconut water.
As well as being refreshing and naturally sweet, coconut water is rich in nutrients and offers various health benefits. It is known as a natural isotonic, with a low calorie content - around 22 kcal per 100ml. Its potential benefits include fluid replacement, especially in cases of dehydration. The drink also helps to replenish electrolytes such as potassium, magnesium and sodium, which are lost during exercise, helping to prevent cramps.
Whole coconut water is the liquid part extracted from the coconut in its natural state, without fermentation, dilution or the addition of substances. It is a versatile ingredient and can be used in vitamins, juices and smoothies.
