07 March EASTER FOLAR – HISTORY AND TRADITION
The history and tradition of Easter Folar Cake, is ancient and was born in a small place. It follows a lady called Mariana who after praying to Saint Catherine for a husband, had to choose between two men. One was a nobleman, the other a simple but stronger worker – both good looking. Very indecisive and under pressure, she ended up choosing the worker. The nobleman, frustrated, had planned to murder Mariana’s future husband on the wedding day. Desperate, she turned once more to Saint Catherine and prayed. Once she got home, she found a cake, adorned with the same flowers she offered to the Saint and thought it was a peace offer from the nobleman. She gathered courage to say thank you to him. However was surprised when she arrived at the nobleman’s place and he also apologized and thanked her for the cake he received. The nobleman also thought the cake he received was a peace offering. All made peace with each other – the worker, the nobleman and Mariana. The good news spread through the village. The cake became known as ‘’folore’’ and as a symbol of selfless friendship.
